Iain Crawford

Inspired shoot 4
Iain Crawford grew up in Africa and Malaysia and
developed a passion for photography at an early age. On moving to London, he worked as an account handler for Saatchi &
Saatchi but left to pursue his photographic career. After spending several
years living and working in New York, he is now based back in London but
continues to work internationally.
Crawford loves to capture images that have a strong graphic and textural quality that still shows emotion within them. His career has led him to shoot campaigns for many of the world's top brands and receive commissions from a host of top international magazines.

One of my favourite shoots of
Crawford’s is the paint shoot, it shows emotion, creativity and excitement
within his photos; below are a couple of photos done in the paint shoot. I
admire how he applies colour within his images, the fusion between the paint
and model come together very well to create an outstanding final piece.
What I also liked about his paint
shoot, in which I think was his best shoot, was how not only did he capture
beautiful images of the models and how the colour fitted in the picture nicely
but how he also captured the movement of the models whilst throwing the paint
over them.
What I also noticed is that
majority of his photographs of his models were taken from the shoulders above,
there wasn’t many full body shots taken. Personally, I think taking them from
the shoulders above is a better composition to use when doing fashion
photography, it allows you to focus more on what’s happening in the picture.
I found Crawford’s images very inspiring towards my project; movement within the pictures is another idea that can be considered towards my project.

Glen Krohn
Inspired shoot 3, 4 and 5

Glen Krohn is a fashion and beauty photographer based in Brisbane. Krohn has been working in this industry since 2006 – present.
Glen Krohn’s work is inspirational towards my own
project, his work will help me decide on colours to use, the style to do it in
etc.
The colours he uses in his photographs and the poses of the models fuse together very well to make an overall outcome. Nothing looks out of shape; the compositions and positions are chosen very carefully and well done.
My favourite shoot of Krohn’s is called ‘Beauty 1’ I think this is one of his best shoots, plainly because of the vibrant, wild colours he uses to create such beauty. However, I also like how he gets up close to the models faces; I think it adds to the fashion look, it makes it look more stylish.
I’ve also noticed in Glen Krohn’s ‘Beauty 1’ shoot, his images have a kinetic movement to them, ex. The models have had their blown back, or they’ve been captured whilst pulling faces. I think this makes his images a lot more fun and unique. It makes them seem a whole lot more interesting, like they have more meaning.
Kinetic
movement is used in a lot of fashion photographer’s work, in which Krohn is one
of the best at using it, which I like. Personally, I think this could be a good
thing to do whilst shooting my own project.

Martin Higgs' work relates to my personal investigation
very well, as I'm also looking at Fashion, but I'm looking at all 3 aspects he
mentioned in the Fashion industry being hair, clothes and beauty. Therefore I
can apply and use Higgs' work as help and inspiration towards my own project.
